My clients were looking to move to a larger house because of their growing family with 3 boys. But due to their love of the existing house and neighborhood; they decided to stay and expand existing spaces in the house. We gutted the interior, raised the ceilings, added an additional bedroom, increased the size of the master bedroom, moved window locations, and designed a larger, transitional kitchen.
Their new kitchen space accommodates many appliances, as well as providing a generous working space and plenty of storage. The kitchen is open to the family room and dining room, so the homeowners can prepare meals and snacks with friends and family. The breakfast bar offers seating for the children to remain in the center of the house as well.
When completing this project, we came across some challenges, which included designing a space that the whole family could grow into and be comfortable, keeping the budget in mind, and specifying materials that would take the demand of young boys and pets into consideration. In addition, we needed to create a light ambience where the children can gather as well as have adults entertaining in the same space. After completing this remodel, our clients could not be more thrilled with the new layout of their home – which is the most rewarding part of the project for us!
